  1. Hi Simon! Hope all is well with you. Your new website layout looks great. Is this done with Clikpic or did you switch service? I just did a website with Clikpic. Pretty basic, reasonably happy with it although would like to tweak a few things like having the slideshow automatically adjust size depending on viewers screen and also adding buttons to link to Flickr/Facebook etc, which I am sure can all be done. But would be interested to know if you did change website service and why.

Thanks and keep up the good work. Diana and I are off with Tony Spencer to Namibia in March — really psyched about that. All the best for 2014 and look forward to seeing your new pics.

Hi Stephen, good to hear from you!

I used to have a website with Clikpic but I found the user interface awkward and unintuitive to use. It took me so long to set it up just how I wanted that after a year I had forgotten how to change things and move the bits around that I wanted to move. In addition I found that no matter what file size and quality I uploaded the images would end up severely degraded and look a bit fuzzy.

As far as I know you can’t have the images change size automatically, which for me was very annoying, especially with the growing use of tablets. The photos would take up the whole of the iPad screen, but when viewed on a good sized desktop they would be too small. The social media buttons are a real pain to get right on Clikpic too.

I made this site using WordPress. It takes a view days to get used to but once you do it’s actually very simple. All the images scale automatically depending on screen size but still retain a good degree of sharpness. Plus if I decide I want to change it I can just swap the theme to one of the thousands available.

Enjoy Namibia. I’ve wanted to go there for ages. Kolmanskop looks amazing… I just need to save up!

Hope all is well in HK.

    • Thanks for the reply Simon! — I’ve paid for one year now so I will see if I can make the resizing and social media links work with the Clikpic helpdesk. On quality, my pics look pretty nice on my screen — but look very faded and a bit overexposed on some Dell screens at my office and on some friends screens even after calibration. Good to know about the WordPress option. May look into that in the future. I like how you can scroll through your slideshow on your homepage.

Here’s the link to my site: http://www.stephenkingphoto.com. Would be curious to know if the pics look overexposed to you.

Are you exhibiting at all at the Mall Galleries/Light and Land exhibit in March? I thought about it but cant spend so much time away from HK.

      Keep in touch!

        Hi Stephen,

the photos on your site look fine. Having images accurately displayed is a nightmare, as so much will depend on the quality of the monitor. For cheaper LCDs like the ones shipped with Dells the colour calibration is only half the battle and if they aren’t lit properly or have the capability of displaying true blacks then photos will look weird on them regardless.

I’m not exhibiting at the Light and Land thing. Unfortunately I am too busy. I’ll pop down for a look though and speak to the people about how it went, then if they run another one next year I might join in.

I’m off to the Lofoten Islands in Norway soon, so I’ll let you know if they’re worth a visit. I’m sure they will be!

        Simon
